Digital art of a deer with antlers, showing just its head and antler down to about the base of its neck. Its antlers have a lit candle on each of its points. The deer itself is facing forward with eyes like a predator. The background is orange with a textured overlay, and the deer is also limited to an orange/brown palette to match.

It’s that time of the year once more, time for Drawtober!! I like to follow along with the Drawtober challenge which gives 6 prompts across the whole month of October. Way less stressful than a prompt a day like most other challenges. This year’s Drawtober prompts seem to be focused on a magical/creepy forest theme. Very cool!

I was originally going to try to do graffiti-esque designs based on the prompts, then try to write a story thing like I did last year. But I just wasn’t feeling any great inspiration for either of those. So I decided to just come up with something neat for each prompt and see what I could do from there.

The first prompt is “Candlelit Messenger”, and I went with a deer with candles in its antlers! Also makes for a nice pun, y'know, deer + candelabra = “candeerlabra”, loool~

Fun fact, animals with eyes facing more towards the sides of their head tend to be prey animals, since that eye set up gives them the widest field of vision around them to keep an eye out for predators. On that note, predators usually have eyes that point more forward in order to better focus on whatever prey they’re hunting.

This deer I intentionally designed with more forward facing eyes than a normal deer. Granted, I’m not sure how well that comes across, but I hope the staring adds to the creepiness factor! 👁️
