Drawings ideas for parents of a character from a dating sim, woo hoo…!

I’m not sure if an anthropomorphized personification of fear like Oz really has ‘parents’ per say, but someone probably must’ve willed him into existence or something, right? So the basic idea is, a pair of eldritch entities who use literal puppets/mannequins to manifest in our world and are trying out living as (relatively) normal people in various occupations. And also to mess with both humans and monsters alike.

If you asked them their occupations, they would say they’re actors who ‘play’ different roles in the world and just switch around whenever they get bored. Right now, Harold is acting as a door-to-door salesperson who sells cursed objects to unsuspecting buyers, and Sheila is acting as a stay at home mom who is also a serial killer.

They had Oz to see what raising a kid would be like, and they’re rather enjoying it, from teaching good(?) life-lessons to sharing embarrassing childhood photos with Oz’s friends, huzzah!

More little details under a cut here, just so this doesn’t get too long on people’s dashboards.

So now, more details:

Both Harold and Sheila are kinda vaguely/loosely inspired by Lovecraft entities. For Harold, admittedly his main source of inspiration comes from an entity called Hastur, who uses a character called The King in Yellow as an avatar in some stories (The King in Yellow also comes from a story of the same name, which in turn was about a cursed play of that same name, hence the theater masks on Harold’s suitcase). For Sheila, I believe a couple of Lovecraft entities get represented by a black goat in some stories (and I’m pretty sure the Black Goat from Night in the Woods was based off this idea as well), hence Sheila’s goat head.

Being eldritch entities, we probably wouldn’t really be able to comprehend their real forms. But I’d like to imagine, to sorta ‘soften’ the blow to normal humans/monsters, Harold would be represented by golden theater masks, and Sheila would be represented by a cluster of yellow goat eyes.

They made Oz as a personification of fear since they wanted to make a child that would be scary enough to fit in with the other monsters. As they say, “there is nothing to fear but fear itself!”

Sheila’s occupation as a serial killer mom was 100% inspired by the movie Serial Mom, I will admit. :P

I imagine they’ve probably switched around names/appearances/genders/etc a lot during their time acting on this plane of existence. What they switch off on will change each time, but they usually don’t change until a long period of time, from the perspective of normal beings. ‘Harold’ and ‘Sheila’ are the names they’ve been going by for the past hundred years or so, and they’ve been in their current roles for about a decade.

… honestly, I already like these two enough that I might keep them as regular OCs rather than specifically Monster Prom ones. Besides Oz, there isn’t anything making them specific to Monster Prom, so eh. :u
